Donne's Manuscripts

Dear All,

I am a 5th Year Architecture Student studying at the Welsh School of Architecture, UK.  For my final design project I am hoping to design a 'John Donne Instuitue of Studies'.  Part of the scheme will involve a permanent gallery exhibition.  I was wondering, if donne's manuscript's even exist any more, because I am aware that much of his work was published after his death.

If anyone has any information on this or any other historical items connected to John Donne, I would appreciate your help!

Regards

Will-

There are many manuscripts--although none (as far as I know and others may correct me on this) are in Donne's hand. Since the bibliographic and textual criticism on Donne is quite large, I would suggest that you read through the introductions of the current volumes of the Donne Variorum to get some footing. Hopefully others can offer better advice than me.

Best,
Mitch

Only one poem in Donne's handwriting survives, if that is for what you are looking.  Many prose letters are extant. A helpful guide, in addition to what Mitch has pointed out, is, of course, Peter Beal's Index to English Literary Manuscripts.

Itis hard to know what you want--what exactly are you planning?

I'm no architect, but it seems like you could opt for a rotunda (as in "circulating manuscripts") or the labyrinth or garden of forking paths (as in the textual schema).
