Hi to all, i would like you to know about a new italian site about John Donne's translations. I think it might be helpful for those of you who can understand both this two beautiful languages. The site is www.johndonne.org bye!
Delighted to hear about this John Donne site. At first reading the start of its Cronologia, I note that (1) Donnes mothers name was Elizabeth, not Anne; (2) there is no real evidence that Donne attended Cambridge in the 1580s; and (3) it is not clear that Donnes position in Egertons secretariat was a result of friendship with the lord keepers son Thomasthe lord keeper had another son, probably better described as good than Thomas was.
Also, missing from the Bibliografia is any notice of The Variorum Edition of the Poetry of John Donne, which is establishing not only the best text of Donnes poems but a model for the general editing of sixteenth and seventeenth-century manuscript poets. Formerly standard Oxford editions such as Gardners of the Elegies and Holy Sonnets, as well as Milgates of the Epigrams, Anniversaries, and Funeral Poems, now need to be corrected by use of the Variorum texts and apparatus.
