Dear all,

I am comparing reproductions of different instances of Donne's signature, especially on flyleaves of books that belonged to him, and I wonder what the ampersand-like character at the end stands for. If it only appeared on the flyleaves of his books, it might be the "s" of the genitive to indicate that the book is "John Donne's", but this same character appears in his signatures at the end of his letters, too. Is it just a small flourish?

Just a small flourish, I'm told.  I've wondered too, and thought somehow it might be an "s"--but no, it's not.

I read your book on Donne and the ancient Catholic Nobility and I crave for more. You state in the book that you will further the investigation by studying later periods of his life. Have you already published anything related to this project?
